Our Why
The Deaf community can face many barriers in finding and sustaining work in a hearing world. We set out to create a pathway for the Deaf to gain work and leadership experience in an environment that celebrates their abilities and community. Good Sign Coffee is both customer-forward and employee-focused, providing patrons with a rich cup of coffee and employees with a safe, empowering work environment.
The facts
In the United States alone, more than 1,000,000 individuals are deaf. Globally the numbers are closer to 70 million.
Despite various organizations aimed at supporting this population, the Deaf still lack many of the same opportunities as hearing people. In addition to experiencing elevated unemployment rates, the Deaf community faces more obstacles to attain education and increased likelihood of pay inequality.
Good Sign Coffee is proud to partner with Deaf institutions of learning to address this opportunity gap by facilitating employment opportunities for their students and cultivating valuable work skills and relationships.
